Broadway stars Gary Mauer and Elizabeth Southard will join the Maui Pops Orchestra for Broadway Pops to present a collection of memorable Broadway songs from hit shows such as Les Miserables, Show Boat, West Side Story, Chicago and more. Among the songs performed will be “Begin the Beguine,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “I Got Rhythm” and “Music of the Night” while the orchestra's performances include the overtures from “Gypsy” and “West Side Story.” Southard and Mauer sang the lead roles of Christine and the Phantom in the Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's international sensation, The Phantom of The Opera. Dawn Upshaw has achieved worldwide celebrity as a singer of opera and concert repertoire, which ranges from the classic works of Bach to the freshest sounds of today. Her ability to reach to the heart of music and text has earned her both the devotion of a diverse audience, and the awards accorded to only the most distinguished of artists. Ms. Upshaw has performed the roles of Pamina, Ilia, Susanna and Despina on the opera stage, and sings Bartok, Ravel and Schubert as well as a new work written for her by Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy. She is touring in recital with longtime collaborator, Gilbert Kalish on piano.
