Maui ‘Ukulele Festival 2012

Enjoy a relaxed afternoon of island music with highly-acclaimed musicians, celebrating Hawai‘i’s beloved instrument. Renowned ‘ukulele advocate and teacher Roy Sakuma will serve as M.C. Popular ‘ukulele musicians who are scheduled to perform this year include: Ohta-san with Nando Suan, Kamakakehau Fernandez, The Hula Honeys, Aidan James, Ka‘ala Cormack & J-Town Hui, Honey Bun & The Coconuts, Daniel & Nelly Toyama Baduria, Nick Acosta, Tamlyn Tamura, Seabury Hall Hawaiian Ensemble, and Kalama Intermediate School ‘Ukulele Band. Island food and crafts are available for purchase.
Roy Sakuma's annual free 'ukulele workshop will be held on Saturday, October 13 from 10 am to 1 pm in McCoy Studio Theater. Email ukulele@mauiarts.org to register.

Starry Night Cinema movie night returns with the screening of Babe (1995), a charming Australian family film about Babe (voice of Christine Cavanaugh), a pig separated from his family and raised by sheep dogs. Babe wants to become a useful member of the farm by learning to herd sheep with a little help from Farmer Hoggett (James Cromwell). The superior animation and smart script helped Babe garner an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Art activities and live music by Dave Elberg precede the show. MACC presents another free, family fun night with Walt Disney/DreamWorks' Rise of the Guardians. This epic magical adventure tells the story of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost - legendary characters with previously unknown extraordinary abilities. When an evil spirit known as Pitch lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children everywhere. This adventure story is an adaptation of the classic tale of a grumpy yet charming forest creature (voiced by Danny DeVito) who shares the enduring power of hope. Enjoy an all-star lineup of Hawai‘i’s best slack key guitar musicians ... in a laid-back, local-style ambiance that lingers until dusk. Popular musicians and recording artists who are scheduled to perform include: Kevin & Ikaika Brown, Danny Carvalho, John Cruz, Hapa, Stephen Inglis, David Kahiapo, George Kahumoku Jr., Dwight Kanae, Donald Kaulia, Dennis Kamakahi, Walter Keale, George Kuo, Bobby Moderow, Glen Smith, Paul Togioka and Alani 'Yuki' Yamauchi from Tokyo. Arts & crafts made in Hawai‘i and island foods will be available throughout the afternoon!
