WELCOME

In 2014, Maui Arts & Cultural Center celebrates 20 years as the state’s premier performing and visual arts venue. We also commemorate 19 years as partners with Hawai‘i Department of Education, Maui District, in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts program Partners in Education. Our MACC/DOE team, known as Hawai‘i ‘95, continues to be a leader in arts integrated learning in the United States.

You may find it hard to believe that we can create such big ripples from our tiny island … but we hear it all the time from our colleagues at the Kennedy Center and in other states!

"The Kennedy Center places tremendous value on its relationship with the Maui Arts & Cultural Center ...They have demonstrated continued commitment to the professional development of teachers and artists, and to the creation of programs to bring the arts into the lives of students on Maui.

“They are building bridges not only in their local area, but throughout the islands."

-- Barbara Shepherd, Director of National Partnership for the Kennedy Center

If you are new to our arts integrated professional development program: welcome!

We are sure you will agree with more than 1200 teachers who have attended workshops and summer institutes in the past, and maintain that it is time well spent to learn exciting new strategies to bring to the classroom. Check out the workshops in our Education brochure (linked in the column at left) and be sure to bring your students to performances, exhibits, and CanDo! Days.

Rae Takemoto, arts integration coordinator and coach at Pomaika’i School; Alvin Shima, Maui Complex Area Superintendent;and Susana Browne, education director at MACC, represent the Hawaii 1995 Team in the Kennedy Center’s Partners in Education national network.

Please email or call our Education Director, if you have any questions about how your school can take advantage of the MACC's programs:
