Sammy Hagar & the Wabos
Castle Theater, 7:30 pm
Rocking since the 1960s, Sammy Hagar was “born to rock and built to last,” maintaining an extremely successful music career. He has performed alongside notable rock stars and established a solid solo profession. Hagar adopted the name “Red Rocker” during his early solo career when he sold millions of albums world-wide in the 70s. His success landed him into the middle of mega rock band, “Van Halen,” as lead singer replacing David Lee Roth. Together, Sammy and the boys crafted some of rock and roll’s hottest songs to date, earning four multi-platinum albums: OU812 (1988), For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991), Live: Right Here, Right Now (1993), and Balance (1995). After his stint with Van Halen, Hagar returned to his solo career, adding “The Wabos” as a permanent touring band. To date they’ve produced four hit albums: Red Voodoo, Ten 13, Not 4 Sale, and Livin’ It Up! Presented by BAMP Project.

311 in concert with Special Guests Iration & The Throwdowns
Events Lawn, 6:30 pm
311’s fusion of reggae and rap-metal was created in Omaha, where singer-guitarist, Nick Hexum, DJ/singer, S.A. Martinez, guitarist, Tim Mahoney, drummer, Chad Sexton, and the bassist known only as P-Nut launched the group in 1990. Taking their name from the Omaha Police Department’s code for indecent exposure, the quintet celebrated its decade-plus existence with a “Greatest Hits” compilation. Released in 2004, the record included all of 311’s hit singles, several new tracks and the band’s reggae-tinged cover of the Cure’s Love Song. The band soon returned to the studio, partnering with Mega-producer Bob Rock. Heralded by frontman Nick Hexum as “the heaviest 311 has ever been,” the resulting “Uplifter” album arrived in 2009. Presented by King Michel Concerts. Gate opens 5:30 pm

Hapa
Castle Theater, 7:30 pm
MACC Presents … Ho‘onanea Series
“Hapa, the most successful Hawaiian-music group in recent history.” — New York Times
According to the Santa Cruz Sentinel, if Maui were music, it would sound like these guys. Barry Flanagan and Nathan Aweau are Hapa, one of Hawai'i's premiere music groups. Like the Hawaiian Islands, Hapa's pan-Polynesian music is an amalgam of influences ranging from ancient genealogical chants to the strummed ballads of Portuguese fisherman and Spanish cowboys and the inspirational melodies of early missionaries. Add to this a dose of American acoustic folk/rock and you have what has been described as the “most exciting and beautiful contemporary Hawaiian music the world knows!” (Maui Time Weekly) Hapa has won Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards in addition to international acclaim.
