Throughout his impressive recording career – from the stunning 1985 debut to his stellar 2011 release – Chris Isaak has tunefully and artfully explored the good, the bad and the ugly of love, and other matters of profound human interest. From some of his best known early songs, such as the international breakthrough smash “Wicked Game,” “Baby Did A Bad, Bad Thing” and “Somebody’s Crying,” to “Cheaters Town,” an intimate travelogue of heartache, and “You Don’t Cry Like I Do,” a searing song of love and loss that reaches the octave heights of Roy Orbison, Chris reaffirms his passion for the life he leads. Catch him for one night only on Maui as part of his new Beyond the Sun tour.224

Pavilion/Courtyard

The Green CD Release Concert

The Green, four extraordinary talents from Hawai'i, exploded on the music scene last year with their self-titled debut album. Amazingly for a new band, the disc rocketed onto Billboard’s 2010 Year-End Top 10 Reggae Chart, was honored as iTunes’ Reggae Album of the Year, won Best Reggae Album at the 2011 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, and has sold over 20,000 copies. Now the promise of The Green's youth-infused roots reggae revival is set to be fulfilled with their newly released record, Ways & Means. With songs contributed by all four members (Caleb Keolanui, JP Kennedy, Ikaika Antone & Zion Thompson), a strong shot of assistance from touring bassist/producer Brad Watanabe and touring drummer/producer Leslie Ludiazo, the message of Ways & Means boils down to bringing people together and respecting all people for who they are ... This CD release event will kick-off their upcoming US tour and The Green is poised to break out on a national level.289

When The Mountain Calls +Taylor Camp Films

When The Mountain Calls +Taylor Camp Films

A double-feature of enlightening films: First screening is WHEN THE MOUNTAIN CALLS: NEPAL, TIBET & BHUTAN directed by Emmy-Award winning Maui filmmaker Tom Vendetti. The film explores the director/ producer’s personal experiences and reflections from over 30 years of traveling through the Himalayas – a journey discovering the meaning and sources of happiness in unexpected places, and the changes over the decades to the people, land, climate and culture. The second screening is TAYLOR CAMP, a film about 13 young mainlanders who fled to Kaua'i in 1969. After some trials, this little tribe of men, women and children were invited to camp on vacant oceanfront land by resident Howard Taylor, brother of actress Elizabeth, who then left them on their own without any restrictions, regulations or supervision. In 1977, after condemning the village to make way for a state park, government officials torched their tree houses, leaving little but ashes and memories of "the best days of our lives." The significance of Taylor Camp’s eight-year existence is revealed through interviews made decades later after the filmmakers tracked down the campers, their neighbors and the government officials who finally got rid of them. This film contains some nudity, drug use and explicit language and may not be suitable for all ages.302
