“Everything that touches on Hawaiian culture is found in hula.”-Kumu Hula Hōkūlani Holt, MACC Cultural Progams Director
World Conference on Hula
The second-ever World Conference on Hula took place on Maui in 2005, including workshops, classes, excursions to Maui’s special places, and evening hula and chant performances for hula practitioners. More than 1200 participants from around the world attended. Some of the most renowned names in Hawaiian culture — including Maui’s own Hōkūlani Holt and Keali‘i Reichel, as well as Pualani Kanaka'ole Kanahele, Kekuhi Kanahele Frias, and Leina‘ala Heine Kalama — shared their knowledge throughout the week and provided in-depth learning of Hawaiian cultural skills.

The Flowering of Cultural Vitality
“The blossom is budding forth” refers to the emerging of the cultural programs offered at the MACC. They are intended to expand and deepen the nature of Hawaiian programming and to continue education in various aspects of Hawaiian culture such as hula, chant, and storytelling. These programs are to stimulate a heightened sensitivity to cultural themes.
